I had the pleasure to photograph the wedding of Raj and Raji, while being a part of a large photography and video team. As a lone artist you’d struggle to capture it all because as any event of this size there is so much happening that you are bound to miss a lot of it because you cannot be in two places at once!
This is even more so true about weddings because we have intensified emotions ranging from joy to tears across all the family and friends, and of course the couple itself.
We began our day by meeting the bride as she was preparing herself, doing the last minute checks on her beautiful and colourful outfit, and adding pieces of jewellery that enhanced her outfit even more so. The family patiently waited until she was finished, and the bride departed downstairs. Witnessing the surprise of her family and friends as they saw the bride all ready was so wonderful.
The thing that always strikes me with Asian weddings is the incredible bond of people. As we arrived at the Sikh Centre in Leicester, we witnessed the two families meeting each other, exchanging well wishes, greetings and hugs. This part I don’t see in most of my weddings, and as such it’s so touching and emotional to see the smiles and kisses that are exchanged between the two families, who just a short while ago were complete strangers to each other.
The reception (held at Empire, Leicester) brought everyone even closer, the entertainment team made sure all generations are joining in for those amazing beats!
